A WINDOW TO YOUR PAST

I'm sure it will come as no surprise to everyone who visited, A Window To Your Past event held in the Ridings Centre on the 11-12th September was a resounding success, in the two seven hour periods we were open to the public an incredible 2235 visitors were recorded, when you take into account that we were competing with 30 other Heritage open days taking place within the Wakefield area at the same time, it truly shows the tremendous interest in the vast and diverse history of Wakefield and the surrounding area.

The community spirit and feeling of mutual interest between all sections of the public was clearly on show with everyone exchanging comments and stories about their family history, all the societies taking part really stepped up to the mark and made every visitor feel their own particular story was important, there genuinely was a buzz of excitement from all, the feedback we are getting is most encouraging and the most asked question is will we be repeating it next year.

Finally l have to say that The Mayor and her Consort and Mace Bearer in full regalia certainly added to the occasion, and l'm sure all present will agree Victor Watson the town crier also added that extra something to the event.

l will conclude by thanking everyone especially the Ridings Management Team, led by Barbara Winston and all those who took part or were involved in the planning and organising. l offer you my own personal and most sincere appreciation for your effort in making the event so memorable.
